Quick answers, and a person at the end.

fold is a puzzle on one sheet of paper: fold it, merge the matching numbers, fold it down to one tile. 120 levels in six sheets, plus a new daily puzzle every day. Most questions are answered below; anything else, email and I answer personally.

Folding

How do I fold?

Touch a cell and swipe toward the middle of the sheet, pull one of the tabs on the sheet's edges, or drag any dashed crease line. The paper creases there and everything past the crease folds over, mirrored. Tiles that land on an equal number merge and double.

Why did my fold spring back?

A fold is refused when a tile would land on a tile with a different number. The paper springs back, the crease shows red, and nothing is lost — try another crease.

I am stuck.

Undo is unlimited and free; tap it as many times as you like. Restart resets the level. A hint folds the solver's next move for you. No level in fold is unsolvable: every one was verified by the solver before it shipped. If the game ever tells you a level has no solution, that is a bug worth reporting.

Hints and stars

How do hints work?

Tap hint and the paper folds itself along the solver's best next crease. You can tap it again for the next move, and after an undo the hint applies to the board as it is. Any hint caps that level at two stars. Free players get three hints a day — the count is on the pill and it refills at your own midnight; the one-time unlock makes hints unlimited.

How are stars scored?

Finish at or under par for three stars. Up to two folds over par is two stars; more than that is one. Using any hint caps the level at two. Par is the fewest folds that exist, worked out by the solver, so three stars is a real claim. Undo does not count against you — only the folds on the board when you finish.

The unlock

Which levels are free?

Sheets 1 and 2 — forty levels — and the daily puzzle, forever. fold unlimited (US$4.99, one payment) adds Sheets 3 to 6 (eighty more levels, in any order), the daily archive, and unlimited hints. There is no subscription and there are no ads on either side of it.

I paid and the game still says locked.

Settings → Restore purchases. The unlock is tied to your Apple Account, so it restores on any device signed into the same account. If restore does not bring it back, email the address below with the date of purchase; App Store receipts come from Apple, not from me, so a screenshot of the receipt helps.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Progress and iCloud

Where did my progress go?

Progress is saved on your device after every fold, and mirrored to iCloud when iCloud Drive is on for your Apple Account. The mirror only ever merges forward — a device that has been offline cannot delete progress made elsewhere. Deleting the app deletes the local save; iCloud keeps the mirror, so a reinstall picks it back up.

Can I start over?

Settings → Reset all progress. Stars, best fold counts and the streak go to zero on this device and in the iCloud mirror. Your purchase is not affected.

The daily puzzle

The daily says I missed a day.

The streak counts consecutive local days on which you solved the daily. It resets if a day passes with no solve. Past days can be replayed from the archive (part of the unlock), but replaying a past day does not restore a broken streak.

Is everyone's daily the same?

Yes. The board is generated from the date, so the share line you send names the same puzzle your friend gets.

The daily reminder

When does the game ask about it?

Once, after you have solved your first daily puzzle — never at launch and never during the intro. A page shows what the reminder looks like (today's board and yesterday's, by size and par) and offers Send me a daily sheet or No thanks. Only the first of those asks iOS for permission, so saying no costs nothing and is not asked again.

How do I turn it off?

It is a normal iOS notification, once a day: iPhone Settings → Notifications → fold. The game never sends marketing notifications.

Settings and privacy

Sound, haptics, motion, analytics

All under Feel in the game's Settings: Sound, Music, Haptics, Fold animation (which follows the phone's Reduce Motion until you set it yourself, and says so under the switch) and Analytics and ad measurement. Turning that last one off stops every analytics call and every ad-measurement event at the source.

What was that "Let us improve fold." page when I started?

That is the one thing fold asks for, and it asks once. Share counts and ad events lets the game send anonymous counts of how many folds a sheet took you, plus the app and purchase events our ad measurement partners need before an advert can be measured — and on a version built to run adverts, iOS's own tracking question comes up straight after it. No thanks turns all of it off and asks iOS nothing. Either answer keeps the whole game. The page and the Settings row are the same switch, so Settings → Analytics and ad measurement changes your mind at any time, in either direction. The full policy is on the privacy page.

Accessibility

VoiceOver reads the board ("4 by 4 sheet, 5 tiles: 2 at column 1 row 3 …") and offers every legal fold as a custom action. Dynamic Type is supported on every screen. Reduce Motion — the phone's, or the in-game Fold animation switch — turns a fold into a short cross-fade with no flip and no confetti. Tile colours are checked under deuteranopia and protanopia, and the printed number, never the colour, is what the rules read.

Which devices?

iPhone, iOS 18 or later. It runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode; there is no iPad-specific layout yet.

Include the level number (it is in the header, e.g. "Sheet 03 · 17") and what you expected to happen. Screenshots help. I answer personally, usually within a few days. Bug reports and feature requests are both welcome.
